Generative AI will cause broad transformations across nearly all categories of white-collar roles, while blue-collar work will remain shielded from major disruption.

Do you work in the financial services industry?

In a recent research report, ‘Generative Artificial Intelligence and the Workforce’, released by SHRM and conducted by The Burning Glass Institute, they predicted that Generative AI will enhance productivity and transform job roles over the next 10 years, but the cost of that surge will be short-term layoffs and hiring slowdowns in many white-collar occupations as employers adjust to a new reality.

The study found that the roles most exposed to disruption by Generative AI include mortgage brokers, legal professionals, certified public accountants, tax preparers and marketing researchers.

Generative AI impact will be less about automating away tasks than about augmenting workers’ productivity and effectiveness.
